CAIRO – 4 December 2017: Minister of Youth and Sports, Khalid Abdul Aziz, gifts 750,000 and 250,000 Egyptian Pounds to the weight lifting champions Mohamed Ihab and Sarah Samir, respectively, after they received four gold medals, collectively, in the Weightlifting World Championship (WWC) held in the United States.

Th Ministry of Youth and Sports regulations state that for every gold medal an Egyptian athelete receives in any World Championship, he or she will be given a finiancial prize of 250,000 Egyptian Pounds from the Egyptian State, according to Super Kora.

The weightlifting champion and bronze medalist of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Mohamed Ihab, won three gold medals in the snatch and the clean and jerk competitions, in addition to occupying the first place for the total weights lifted, in an achievement that has not occurred since 1953.

Sara Samir, the bronze medalist in Rio Olympics, won the gold medal in the clean and jerk competition.

The weightlifting team will return to Cairo from the U.S. next Friday, after winning the gold medals at the World Championship held in Los Angeles between November 28 and December 3.
