CAIRO – 22 November 2017: Former Barcelona and Italian national team defender, Gianluca Zambrotta backed Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde despite fans’ criticism of the team’s style of play.

“I always see Barcelona as being strong; they will always compete for titles. If you are a club like Barcelona, style is vital. The game is important, but so are results, the most important thing is to win," Zambrotta told Marca on Wednesday.

Zambrotta wore Barcelona’s jersey between 2006 and 2008; he played alongside Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o in one of Barcelona’s best squads in the history of the club.

Zambrotta revealed his thoughts on Barcelona’s clash against Juventus; “Juventus and Barcelona matches are always very special and different. Anything is possible in a match like this; in recent years both teams have had great players who can always make a difference."

Zambrotta represented Juventus between 1999 and 2006; his time at the club is the best of his career.

Barcelona faces Juventus on Wednesday night for a UEFA Champions League match in Turin, Italy.
