CAIRO – 14 August 2017 – Real Madrid is now closer to the Spanish Super Cup title after defeating Barcelona in the first leg match at Camp Nou 3-1 on Sunday.

Madrid made the mission for Barcelona very hard after ending the first leg match with a 3-1 victory at Barcelona’s stadium, leaving Barca in need of scoring three more goals than Real Madrid in the second leg match, which will take place at Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s stadium, on Wednesday, August 16.

The game was very competitive, and the players from the both teams played aggressively, resulting in nine yellow cards: three for Barcelona and six for Real Madrid.
The first half of the game ended without scoring any goals, but after only five minutes in the second half, the nets were shaken after Real Madrid left back Marcelo crossed the ball, which was intercepted incorrectly by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, letting the ball deceive Barca’s goalkeeper and enter the host team’s net.

The goal refreshed the game and resulted in waves of attacks for the both team, but Barcelona made more attempts than Madrid until the 76th minute of the game, after Barcelona striker Luis Suarez deceived the referee and got a penalty kick for his team, as the referee saw an illegal tackle from Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the penalty area. Lionel Messi had the chance to equalize for Barcelona from the penalty kick and he didn’t waste that chance to score the first and only goal for Barcelona in the game in the 77th minute.

Zinedine Zidane, the head coach of Real Madrid, didn’t start with his superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, but entered him in the 58th minute of the game in place of French striker Karim Benzema. Ronaldo was a super substitute for Zidane at first, as he scored Madrid’s second goal after he received a through ball from Marcelo in a counter attack, which Ronaldo translated into a goal in the 80th minute. However, he also got a yellow card after celebrating the goal by taking off his shirt. Then, after only couple of minutes, Ronaldo received the second yellow card, earning a red card and having to leave the game, after he made a dive to get a penalty kick.

Zidane had another super substitution with the young talent Marco Asensio, who entered the game in place of Mateo Kovacic in the 68th minute. Asensio strengthened his team’s situation in the game, as he scored a killing goal in the 90th minute of the game, after he shot a perfect ball in a critical position of Barcelona’s net that is impossible to repel.
