After six straight games in which the Whites failed to defeat the Reds, Zamalek triumphed over them for the first time in the league.

The last time Zamalek defeated Al-Ahly in a league match occurred on August 22, 2020, in the second round of the 2019–2020 campaign, by a score of 3–1.

When Ahmed Sayed, also known as "Zizou," of Zamalek, found himself all alone with the goal in the sixth minute of the first half, Ramy Rabia, the defender for Al Ahly, intervened and took the ball away from him before he could shoot.

After tampering with Al-Ahly defender Rami Rabia and causing an injury, Zizou exited the field in the 17th minute, with Travis Mutyaba replacing him.

Karim Nedved of Al-Ahly was given a yellow card in the 22nd minute for a hard challenge on Nasser Maher in the middle of the field.

Until the 45th minute, there was no clear winner between the two teams. Saif El-Din Al-Jaziri netted Zamalek's first goal against Al-Ahly thanks to a brilliant ground pass from Nasser Maher that placed him in alone in the goal and into Mustafa Shobeir's net.

After benefiting from a perfect cross from Reda Selim, the Reds' right winger, Ahmed Abdel Kader returned to the game in the 74th minute to salvage a draw for Al-Ahly. Abdel Kader received the ball inside the Zamalek penalty area and placed it to the left of Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad.

In the 86th minute, Al-Jaziri scored Zamalek's second goal from the middle of the penalty area, finding the bottom right corner of the goal.

With this result, Zamalek raised its score to 21 points in tenth place, leveling with Al-Ahly, which is in ninth place, with the same number of points.
