CAIRO - 19 July 2017: Antonio Cassano held a press conference on Tuesday morning to announce his retirement, only one week after signing a new contract with Hellas Verona. It was a strange decision, but what made it stranger was that he went out in the press conference to announce that he will continue his contract with his new team.

“This morning I had a moment of weakness, a ‘fall’, but then I thought about it again,” Cassano told reporters, according to theguardian.com.

Asked about his reasons for retirement, he answered to reporters, “I had a sudden feeling of missing my family and I got too emotional.”

Cassano, 35 years old, believes that his new season with Verona will not be affected with this controversy. He said, “I want to have a fantastic season. I’ve already lost seven kilos and I am fully motivated. Don’t be irritated by all this; in two games’ time we will forget all about this.”

Italian footballer Cassano joined Hellas Verona earlier this week to continue his football career with Verona.
