CAIRO – 18 July 2017: The Arab Football Association has decided to transfer Zamalek’s matches in the Arab Club Championship from Borg Al Arab stadium to Alexandria stadium. The tournament will be held in Egypt from July 21 to August 5.

The executive director of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Tharwa Swelam, revealed that the transfer decision came after the request of Borg Al Arab stadium officials. The request came as a result of riots breaking out during Zamalek’s game against Ahli Tripoli in the CAF African Champions League. Zamalek fans also smashed the seats of the stadium.

Al Zamalek SC is one of two Egyptian clubs participating in the Arab Championship along with Al Ahly. Zamalek is in the second group with Al Nassr FC from Saudi Arabia, Fath Union Sport de Rabat from Morocco, and Al Ahed SC from Lebanon. Zamalek’s first match will be against the Moroccan team Fath Union Sport de Rabat on July 23.
