CAIRO – 14 July 2017: Anthony Longpre was born and raised in Quebec, he was speaking only French and he is a Basketball World Cup champion.

Quebec is the second largest population area in Canada after Ontario, people in Quebec only speaks French.

Longpre was the only player in Canada’s U 19 Basketball Team from Quebec, eight players are from Ontario, two players from Nova Scotia, and one player from British Columbia.

“I was very proud to be the only one from Quebec, Most of the time when you see Team Canada, most of the players are from Ontario, so I was very proud to make the team,” Anthony spoke in an Interview on Thursday with nationalpost.com.

Anthony was speaking only French so he started learning English to interact with his teammates, he said, "I was kind of just alone because I couldn’t really interact with other people. But then I got to learn the language and it was a lot easier. I had to learn it because nobody else was speaking French and I just had to try."

Longpre was a regular starter in Canada’s U 19 Basketball Team, who won the World Cup in Cairo after beating USA in the semi-final and Italy in the final.
