CAIRO – 13 July 2017: Flavio Briatore, former Renault team manger, warned McLaren of the possible departure of Fernando Alonso. Alonso is considered one of the best Formula 1 drivers in the history.

"You don't want to go to some team where you don't have a chance to win," Briatore told Motorsport.com's GP Gazette.

Briatore, who is part of the Alonso management team, continued, saying, "A driver needs to be at a team where you at least have the opportunity to fight for a podium place, and I believe the management at McLaren is working very hard to have a better situation at the team.”

Briatore added, "If McLaren can be competitive...well, to be honest, Fernando feels good there. The team worked very, very well with us in relation to the IndyCar, and we appreciate that. We are working together with McLaren's management to try to find a solution."

Alonso, 35 years old, is a two time Formula 1 champion, and rumors linked him to join Mercedes or Ferrari.
