Mexican embassy organizes “food tasting” event in Cairo

CAIRO – 8 September 2017: The Mexican embassy in Cairo organized a “Mexican food tasting” event on Wednesday, held at the Fairmont Heliopolis hotel in Cairo.

This comes in the frame of the Mexican national day of independence, which falls on September 16 every year.



The Mexican ambassador to Egypt Jose Octavio told Egypt Today "The event is basically aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Mexico and enhance the people-to-people bond between them. The event also aimed to exchange cultural values, given the significance of food as a cultural symbol"

"Mexican cuisine is so similar to Egypt’s, especially regarding the meat and rice-based meals with heavy use of salsa (tomato sauce) and onions, said Deigo, one of the Mexican chiefs present at the event,

Ricardo Ballesteros, head of economic, cultural and cooperation affairs told Egypt Today that the Mexican embassy is also organizing a number of forthcoming events as part of the national day celebrations, including a Mexican musical night at the Cairo Opera House on September 29.
