Egyptians to celebrate 150 years of Old Khedive Cairo

Cairo - 2 July 2017: Cairo celebrates the 150th anniversary of Old Khedive Cairo through events carried out by local artists, the Opera House, and the Music Institution in Cairo that will all take place in Abdin square, El-Alfi street and El Moez street, according to a statement on Friday.

This comes amid orders from Cairo’s governor, Atef Abdel Hamid to renovate 125 historic buildings and five roads and squares for a total worth of 100 million EGP.

Old Khedive Cairo comprises of Ramsis, Tahrir, Opera, and Abdin squares. The celebration will also include exhibitions and seminars introducing the area’s cultural, historical, and artistic importance.

Abdel Hamid added that tours through the area will be conducted for youngsters and students that will present the history of each building in full detail through large set-up screens.
