The 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) opened amid strict precautionary measures

CAIRO - 3 December 2020: The 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) opened on December 2, amid strict precautionary measures, and in accordance to the requirements presented by the Egyptian ministry of health and the World Health Organization.

 

The festival’s opening ceremony was hosted at the beginning by Egyptian star comedian Ashraf Abdel Baky who began the ceremony by presenting a standup comedy sarcastically shedding light on the lives of members of the cinema industry during the pandemic.

 

“ We are happy that we are here despite all the obstacles that occurred because of COVID-19” Abdel Baky said.


Abdel Baky wondered in a comic way what filmmakers will work if the cinema industry stopped.

“ Ahmed Helmy spent his spare time in making extremely solid cakes” Abdel Baky said.

“ I wonder what Ahmed el sakka will work if the cinema industry stopped? He will open a restaurant and he will invite us all to eat for free” Abdel Baky said.
 

The famed Egyptian comedian ask Tamer Hosny to come on stage.
