CAIRO – 8 September 2020: Al-Nor Wal Amal [Light and Hope] orchestra will return after a long hiatus with a concert at the Summer Garden Theater in the Manesterly Palace in Manial on September 13 at 8 p.m. 

 

All the precautionary measures against COVID-19 will be applied in the concert.

 

The orchestra will perform a wide variety of masterpieces by master composers. The orchestra will also perform "Lunga Riad", a work of the great late musician Riad el-Sonbaty; Omar Khairat's “Feha Haga Helwa”; Ahmed Abul Eid's “Ala Shat el-Nile”; and Sayed Darwish's “Aih el-Ebara”, among others.

 

Al-Nor Wal Amal orchestra was established in 1981 by Samha el-Khouly to present Western classical music as well as modern oriental music. It consists of the fourth generation of visually-impaired female musicians on stringed, brass and wooden musical instruments.

 

President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi extended his thanks and appreciation to the female orchestra members during the activities of the Egyptian Women's Day and honoring the ideal mother in 2018.

 

The orchestra played in the most important international forums, including the concert held at UNESCO on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris and at the celebrations of the International Day of Music in the city of Kufra, the birthplace of the founder of the famous Braille method of learning for the visually-impaired.

 

The orchestra was granted various awards, including the Shield of the Women’s Social and Cultural Association, the Sixth Arab Camp Shield for the visually-impaired, and the UAE Shield.
