Celebrating the 85th anniversary of Egyptian radio

CAIRO – 1 June 2019: The Egyptian Radio is celebrating its 85th anniversary as it was launched on May 31, 1934.

‘’Hona el Kahera’’ ( here is Egypt) were the first words the audience her on the inauguration of the radio.

The first broadcasting in that historical day was a Quran recitation by acclaimed sheikh Mohamed Refaat, followed by a concert to the iconic Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum.

Umm Kulthum concert was followed by a number of concerts performed by a notable group of singers at that time like the late singer Saleh Abdel Hay and the generations musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab, followed by a poem reciting by the prince of poets Ahmed Shawki and another poem by reciting by late acclaimed poet Aly el Garem.

The first Egyptian radio presenter was the late pioneer Ahmed Salem who presented a number of successful programs.

Throughout its long history, the Egyptian radio contributed significantly in providing the Egyptian audience with different information in various fields whether political, economical cultural, artistic, sports, comedy, entertainment and kids stuff.

The Egyptian radio presented a number of iconic programs that were part pf the Egyptian audiences daily life such as ‘’ Sa’aa le Albak’’ ( An Hour for Your Heart). ‘’ Ala el Nasya’’ ( At the Corner), ‘’ Abla Fadeela’’ ( Miss Fadeela), ‘’Kelmteen w Bas’’ ( Two Words Only), ‘’Lo’atena el Gamila’’ ( Our Beautiful Language) among others.
