CAIRO – 5 January 2019: The Manuscript Center of the Cultural Communication Sector in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina issued the first edition of the book “Olom el Makhtot“(Manuscript Science), consisting of an advisory that includes a selection of professors of Arab manuscripts in the Arab world and Europe.

The book contains a collection of researches and studies on the Arab-Islamic manuscript heritage.

In its first issue, the book has shed light on several studies in the field of Codicology; the study of codices or manuscript books written on parchment (or paper) as physical objects.

The issue also includes several researches in the science of investigation and indexing.

The book also focuses on highlighting the efforts made by the ancient Arab scholars in serving the Arab heritage.

Finally, the journal allocates one of its sections to researches written in languages other than Arabic.

In the same context, the Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will organize an exhibition of Braille books, writing tools and printers for Braille, as part of the World Braille Day, January 4, 2019.

World Braille Day is annually celebrated on Jan. 4, the birthday of Braille inventor, Louis Braille.
The day recognizes the contributions of Louis Braille in helping blind and visually impaired people to read and write.

Braille is a code used by the visually impaired worldwide.

The day will include interactive activities and Braille competitions in the main library, which aim to shed light on the idea of reading and writing in using Braille codes.
