CAIRO – 3 January 2019: The International Prize for Arabic Fiction is set to expose the nominated novels in the Long Novel Category for 2019 on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. GMT.

The Booker Award is considered one of the top notch literary awards in the Arab World. It grants the prize to the best novel chosen by the judging committee.

The Booker Prize for Arabic Fiction aims to reward excellence in the contemporary Arabic novel and raise the level of reading and translating Arabic novels to different languages.

The novels that made it to the Long Novel Category in 2019 and the members of the judging committee will soon be exposed.

The competing long novels will be shortlisted from a total of 134 writings completed during the period between July 2017 and June 2018.

The Booker Prize for Arabic Fiction is sponsored by the London-based Man Booker Foundation, while the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates support the award monetarily.

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction (formerly known as the Booker–McConnell Prize and commonly known simply as the Booker Prize) is a literary prize awarded each year for the best novel written in English and published in the UK.

The winner of the Man Booker Prize is generally assured international success; therefore, the prize is of great significance for the book trade.

From its inception, only novels written by Commonwealth, Irish, and South African (and later Zimbabwean) citizens were eligible to receive the prize; in 2014, however, this eligibility was widened to any English-language novel—a change which proved controversial.

A high-profile literary award in British culture, the Booker Prize is greeted with great anticipation and fanfare.

It is also a mark of distinction for authors to be selected for inclusion in the shortlist or even to be nominated for the "longlist".
