CAIRO - 14 May 2017: The Palestine Festival of Literature, known as PalFest, started its 10th round on May 13 and lasts till May18.
PalFest started in 2008 with the purpose of breaking the cultural siege imposed by the Israeli occupation. The festival brings international authors and artists to Palestine to bridge the gap between them and the Palestinian public. Unfortunately, as a result of this siege, PalFest is unable to go to Gaza in 2017.
This year, guests travel for a week to Ramallah, Jerusalem, Nablus, and Haifa, touring their famous political and cultural sites.
In the evenings, they go on stage with Palestinian poets and writers. The line-up of writers and thinkers includes Nadeem Aslam, Annie Baker, Eileen Myles, Jelani Cobb, Ismail Khalidi, and Solmaz Sharif. From Egypt, the novelist, cultural and political commentator Dr. Ahdaf Soueif is participating.
All Palfest events are open to the public for free.
