CAIRO – 2 October 2017: Minister of Antiquities Khaled El Anany inaugurated a new storage for antiquities at a museum in New Valley governorate on Sunday.

The project is the first storage room to be built based on high technological standards after 2011 and will be operating under the Ministry of Antiquities, according to a statement from the ministry.

The storage facilities are meant to protect Egyptian antiquities as it includes surveillance to assist in protecting museums from theft.

Built over 18 months, the museum’s storage room is expected to include 10,000 antiquities as it spans over 2,400 square meters and has two divisions; one for administrative purposes and the other will include nine storage halls that can hold heavy antiquities and renovation labs.
