Three Ottoman Artifacts prevented from being smuggled

Cairo – 17 September 2017: Cairo International Airport Antiques' unit thwarted an attempt to smuggle three historical Ottoman early guns [Ghadarat] outside the country by a Passenger.

The three artifacts date back to the Ottoman era. The passenger tried to smuggle them to Turkey.

After the investigation, the archeological committee formed by the Ministry of Antiquities proved that the three guns are considered artifacts.

Ministry of Antiquities will retrieve the three weapons, according to Ahmed al-Rawi, head of antiques' units at the Egyptian ports.

One of the guns is 56 centimeter tall, and has a metal grip and a full firing weapon, except the trigger.

Its barrel consists of two parts; the upper one does not carry any decorations but the lower does.

The other guns carry wooden grips with decorations of the shape of plants, whereas the firing weapon is made from Flintstone, and barrel.

The length of each one is 48 centimeter, according to Hamdy Hamam, director general of the antiques' unit at Cairo International Airport.
