CAIRO - 17 September 2017: Tomb number 54 in the Valley of the Golden Mummies in Al-Bahriya Oasis is currently being restored and developed in order to open and be ready for public visits.

Garib Sonbol, head of the Central Administration for Maintenance and Restoration, has previously announced that the administration has started restoration works on the tomb.

Sonbol pointed out that a preview was prepared before the start of the restoration work as well as the purchase of raw materials; he added that the restoration work of the architectural floor of the cemetery will be completed in a short period of time to be the first step in the complete development of the valley of the Golden Mummies.

In 1992, the famous Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass discovered 192 mummies covered with gold in the Valley of the Golden Mummies.
