CAIRO – 10 September 2017: Bibliotheca Alexandrina continues screening the documentary film, “BA: Past, Present and Future”, till December 14, 2018. It is a 12-minute documentary film about the history of the ancient Alexandria library, and the show will be followed by a guided tour in the main reading area, exhibits and museums.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina is one of the oldest libraries in the world. It was built 23 centuries ago, and it contained more than 700 thousand volumes and manuscripts till it was burnt for the first time.

In 2002, UNESCO cooperated with Egypt to reconstruct Bibliotheca Alexandrina again.
It was the first digital library in the Middle East in the 21st century.

Currently, it contains more than eight million books, six specialized libraries, three museums, seven research centers and six halls for cultural and artistic events.
