CAIRO - 22 August 2017: ‘Camera Buff’ film will screen at Magnolia Cinema on Saturday, August 26, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The comedy, drama and romance film was first released on February 14, 1980 in Poland. It was directed and written by Krzysztof Kieslowski.

The film is about a man named Filip Mosz who bought an eight-millimeter movie camera. He was the first person to have a camera in his city; hence, he was called the official photographer by the local party boss. His thoughts were greatly changed when he visited film festivals and his ambitions as a filmmaker burgeoned, which led to domestic strife and philosophical dilemmas especially after he had realized that the camera exposes truths that do not abide with the interests of the state and the company.

Kieslowski tells his own biography through ‘Camera Buff,’ as Filip’s early films mirror Kieslowski’s own first documentaries; in addition, Filip followed the same methods of Kieslowski to educate himself as a filmmaker.

The film’s stars are Jerzy Stuhr (Filip Mosz), Malgorzata Zabkowska (Irka Mosz) and Ewa Pokas (Anna Wlodarczyk).

The film won an Interfilm Award at Berlin International Film Festival in 1980, Gold Hugo at Chicago International Film Festival in 1980, FIPRESCI Prize and Golden prize at Moscow International Film Festival in 1979 and Best Actor and Golden Lion at Polish Film Festival in 1979.
