CAIRO – 21 August 2017: The Chilean biographical drama movie,‘Neruda’ (2016), will screen at BalconHelioplis on August 25.

‘Neruda’ narrates the life of the legendary Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, who was awarded the Noble Prize in Literature in 1971.

Not only an acclaimed poet, Neruda was also involved in Chilean politics.He was the senator for the Chilean Communist Party and he was a close advisor for the Chilean President Salvador Allende.

The movie focuses on the political activity of Neruda. It discusses his opposition against Gabriel González Videla’s administration.

The conflict between Neruda and Videla started after Videla’sadministration committed violent acts against the Communist Party.

Subsequently, Neruda received a number of threats that led to his decision toescape to Argentina through the Indies Mountains.

The movie was directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Guillermo Calderón.
It was screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

It won a number of prizes such as Best Foreign Film Award at Woodstock Festival in 2016, and Best Screenplay Award at Lima Latin America Festival Film in 2016.

Spain, France, Chile, and Argentina cooperated in the production of this movie.
