‘The Mulberry House’ screens at Alfilm

CAIRO – 20 August 2017: The Yemeni film, ‘The Mulberry House’ (Bayt El Toot), will screen at Alfilm – Arabic Film Festival Berlin on August 20.

It was written and directed by the Yemeni director, Sara Ishaq. It was released in 2013.

The movie is a biographical documentary movie that narrates Ishak’s life.

Ishak, who was born to a Yemeni father and a Scottish mother, faces many problems in her original society, which leads her to immigrate to Scotland. Her father was initially against it, but he eventually asked her to keep her Arabic identity tied to Yemen.

She returned to Yemen after 10 years to witness the Yemeni revolution in 2011.

She sets out to search for her roots and her sense of belonging to her home. She also documents the violent acts between the people and president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

‘The Mulberry House’ (Bayt El Toot) was produced by 5 countries: Yemen, USA, Syria, Egypt, and UK.

The movie will be screened at The International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam.

Jury Prize of This Human World Film Festival Osteria was awarded to ‘The Mulberry House’ movie.

It was also nominated for the best Documentary Movie in Dubai International Film Festival.

Ishaq’s ‘Karama Has No Walls’ was the first Yemeni Film to be nominated by Academy Award for the Best Documentary (Short Subject) movie.
