CAIRO – 17 August 2017: Egyptian play ‘Laylet Ekhtfa’a El Nasr’ (Disappearance of Eagle ) will be performed at Bibliotheca Alexandria (BA) Arts Summer Festival for three consecutive nights from August 21-23.

The performance is directed by Ahmed Askar and performed by Masrah Iskendria theatrical group. Presented in a humorous fictional way, the play portrays the consequences of the Egyptian eagle stamp’s disappearance, which is printed on official government documents.

The play, based on a book by Omar Taher, entitled ‘Rasf Masr’ (2010), sheds light on the notion on what happens when any Egyptian official document is not stamped by the famous eagle stamp.

Also printed on the Egyptian flag, the eagle refers to home and emphasizes idealistic values. While the red color of the flag symbolizes the social A class, white presents the middle-income class, and black reflects the below-average class.

The International Summer Festival is a massive music and arts event organized by the BA Arts Center with the goal of adding a “colorful taste” to summers in Alexandria, as explained in their mission statement. Attracting a diverse audience through its combination of classical Egyptian art, new and varied mediums of art and music, and the 2017 edition will house more than 60 versatile artistic events, including music, theatre, cinema and dance.
