Cinema El Hanager honors memory of late director Mohamed Khan

CAIRO – 5 August 2017: Cinema El Hanager will be screening several films starting Sunday to Thursday at the Cairo Opera House, for the late director Mohamed Khan, to honor the first anniversary of his death.

El Hanager will screen a unique collection of his films including ‘Darbet Shams’ (Sun Burn), ‘W Hata’ (Even If), ‘ El Hareef’ (The Professional), ‘Mawa’aed Ala El Asha’a’ (Dinner Date), ‘Kharag w Lam Yao’d’ (He Went Out and Never Came Back), and the ‘Fares El Madina’ (The City’s Hero).

The free-entry screenings will also be followed by several seminars that will be led by film director Ashraf Fayek, who is also the head of Cinema Activities in Culture Development Fund, according to a released statement by Cinema El Hanager.

Establishing his degree in cinema studies in UK in 1962, Khan returned to Egypt to carry out his aspirations in the film industry, where he worked as a scriptwriter for the Cairo Production Company.

He later worked as an assistant director in Lebanon for few years and travelled back to UK where he wrote his first book called ‘Introduction to the Egyptian Cinema’.

One of the most iconic directors in Egypt, Khan carried out several contributions to Egyptian cinema, such as his film ‘Sun Burn', which was among the several works he produced as a director in 1978.

Other renowned contributions include ‘Zawget Ragel Mohem’ (Wife of an Important Man), and ‘Ayam El Sadat’ (Days of Sadat) which is about former President Anwar El Sadat.
