CAIRO - 19 July 2017: Assistant for Antiquities Ministry responsible for archeological sites Mohamed Abdel Latif has announced the discovery of a collection of carvings and writings in mountain caves found in Sheikh Abdlaal on Kaft El Kaseer road on Wednesday.

The area where the archeological site was found lies between Safaga City and El Koser in Qena and was given this name because it featured old gold mining.

The writings are said to date back to the Islamic era according to Abdel Latif’s statement as part of the Ministry of Antiquities’ initiative to send missions to search for new archeological sites.

Abdel Latif added that the cave was used as a relaxing stop for pilgrims, travelers, and traders. The carvings read “No God But Allah,” “Youssef Bin Hatem El Shetey has been here after joining his family and has been forgiven by God.”
