Egypt’s Ahmad Al Morsy presents world’s latest interactive camera

DOP/Director Ahmad Al Morsy has presented ARRI International’s latest invention during the first edition of the Interactive Cinema International Conference, in an event held on Wednesday evening at Academy of Arts, under the patronage of its president Ghada Gbara.

The edition featured a seminar celebrating the launching of Alexa 35 Motion Picture Camera, ARRI’s latest camera, where only three copies were produced worldwide for projects currently being shot in Egypt, Germany, and the United States. Al Morsy gave a short speech on the features of ARRI’s cameras, drawing on his vast experience in using them. The speech came before a wide audience that included Dr.MohamedAshoub, Head of Board NV Holdings, MR.HansSalzingerRegional Advisor of ARRI International, and Mr.Thilo GottschlingTechnical Advisor of ARRI.

At the end of the seminar, Al Morsy joined a Q&A about the features of the new camera and the changes it shall lead to in the world of cinematography.

On a parallel note, ARRI International has previously selected 4 projects off Al Morsy’s credits to be shown within its showreels of the best works filmed by its cameras.

For more than 20 years, DOP/Director Ahmad Al Morsy has been working in the filmmaking industry making more than 50 films and over 2000 TV ads as a DOP, and recently as a director. Throughout his career, Al Morsy won 22 national and international awards for his work. Currently, Al Morsy is a member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC), in addition to the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) that granted him a total of 9 awards, since joining it in 2018.

His latest works as a DOP include the biggest production in the history of the Arab cinema, Kira & El Gin, directed by Marwan Hamed, which is slated to release in theaters in Eid al-Adha. His most recent Action film Al ArefAwdat Younis dominated the Egyptian box office in 2021, and for which Al Morsyreceived a fair share of critical acclaim for introducing unprecedented forms of actions to the Egyptian film industry. For his work in the hit film, Al Morsy won Best Cinematography Award at Cairo Film Society Festival. 

Over the last two years, Al Morsy collaborated with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in directing a number of promotional campaigns. One of which is Experience Egypt: Same Great Feelings TV commercial – Ad, featuring Egypt's most attractive touristic spots with the revival of tourism in the sumner of 2020. For this Ad, he won the Gold Awardin the Corporate Branding and Advertising Category from the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS). The other Ad was Experience Egypt: Summer in Egypt is a Different Story TV commercial- Ad, which aired in June, 2021, the beginning of the summer tourism season in Egypt. 

Ahmad Al Morsy was the DOP and director of the grand opening of The Avenue of Sphinxes in Luxor that took place in November 2021. Prior to that, in April 2021, Al Morsy alsotook part in the Pharaoh’s Golden Parade as a director and DOP of the event that witnessed the relocation of 22 royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation (NMEC) in Fustat, and directed the megastar Mohamed Mounir’s music video Ana Masry ( I Am Egyptian), which was released during the event. Both were unique events that awarded him several honours.
