Egyptian-Russian trade exchange expected to boost this year

CAIRO - 26 August 2018: Russian Ambassador to Egypt Sergei Kerbachenko expected trade exchange between Cairo and Moscow to further flourish this year as it hit dlrs 6.7 billion in 2017.

In an interview with MENA on the 75th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian-Russian diplomatic ties, Kerbachenko said bilateral ties witnessed a boost over the past five years in various domains as Egyptian and Russian Presidents; Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Valdimir Putin respectively, agreed to elevate bilateral relations.

He said Egypt and Russia are important economic and trade partners.

As for the Russian industrial zone, he said coordination is underway to agree on managing the zone by the Suez Canal Authority and the Russian exports center in preparation for starting the construction of the zone after inking a deal in this regard.

He added that the project will be beneficial for both countries and will play a vital economic role in the region.

As for Egypt's Dabaa nuclear station project, he said the project will mark an economic leap in Egypt as it will generate jobs and incentivize economy.

Concerning the Russian tourism, he said the regular flights between Cairo and Moscow were resumed in April, noting that there are some technical issues need to be settled ahead of resuming charter flights to Egyptian tourist resorts.

Meanwhile, he noted that Russia backs Egypt's efforts to combat terrorism, noting that both sides exchange expertise and information in this respect.

He wished Egypt to succeed in eradicating terrorism.
