CAIRO – 20 May 2017: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said on Friday that 2017 will be one of the best years in the history of the canal.

In statements to RT channel, the official noted that the Suez Canal has become the quickest means available for ships across the world.

The canal has achieved record revenues in March and April, registering $432 million per month following the global trade recovery.

Last week, Mamish attributed the growth achieved over the two months to the increasing number of ships transiting the vital waterway, which amounted to 2,973 ships, carrying a total cargo of 170.8 million tons, compared to 2,847 ships crossing the canal during the same period last year.
