EGX gains for 2nd consecutive session amid Arab purchases

CAIRO – 25 February 2018: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Sunday in green for the second consecutive session, amid Arab purchases which were supported by the strong performance of the global markets on Friday’s trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.39 percent on Friday while Brent oil climbed on the last two days of the week, closing at $67.31 a barrel.

The benchmark EGX30 increased 0.97 percent, or 148.85 points, to end at 15,467.77 points.

The small and mid-cap index EGX70 rose to 859.53 points, with a 0.40 percent or 3.43 point increase, and the broader index EGX100 edged up 1.55 percent or 31.71 points, marking 2079 points.

The equally weighted index EGX50 leveled up 1.04 percent, or 27.72 points, closing at 2704.60 points.

Market Capitalization gained LE 5.77 billion, recording LE 889.23 billion, compared to LE 883.46 billion in Thursday’s session.

The trading volume reached 336.39 million shares traded through 25,235 transactions with a turnover of LE 894.29 million.

Egyptian and foreign investors were net sellers at LE 7.34 million and LE 7.18 million, respectively, while Arab investors were net buyers at LE 14.5 million.

Egyptian, Arab and foreign individuals were net sellers at LE 36.95 million, LE 40.1 million and LE 1.27 million, respectively.

Egyptian and Arab organizations bought at LE 29.62 million and LE 54.59 million, respectively, while foreign organizations sold at LE 5.9 million.

El-Nile Co. for Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Industries, Misr Beni Suef Cement, and Suez Cement were top gainers of the session by 9.75 percent, 9.50 percent and 8.74 percent, respectively.

While el-Kahera Housing, Alexandria National Company for Financial Investment, and Upper Egypt Flour Mills were top losers of the session by 7.47 percent 4.28 percent and 3.85 percent, respectively.

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Thursday in green, as the benchmark EGX30 increased 0.49 percent, EGX70 rose 0.13 percent, EGX100 edged up 0.01 percent and EGX50 increased by 0.11 percent.
