CAIRO – 8 March 2017: Minister of Transportation Hisham Arafat intends to send a memo to the Egyptian cabinet requesting another EGP 30 million to the subway company to help the company to stop its monthly loss until ticket prices are increased, a source told

The source said the ministry will include information about its situation and losses due to the difference between ticket prices and the actual cost of operating the metro lines.

Citizens pay one Egyptian pound a the metro ticket, but the Ministry of Transportation says a single ride costs more and has tried several times in the last three years to increase the price to 3 pounds.
