CAIRO – 8 November 2017: A new 20MW solar plant in the Toshka area in Aswan governorate has started operations this week, with $25 million in investment, Complete Energy Solutions company, the project’s developer, said Wednesday.

The power plant is completed for the benefit of UAE’s al-Dahra Agricultural Company, targeting to save 10 million liters of gasoline and reduce CO2 emissions by 25,000 tons.

Al-Dahra, specialized in agriculture and animal feed production, purchased 100,000 feddans in Toshka project from the Egyptian government in 2013, with investments totaled LE 1.5 billion.

Toshka is a desert valley project that the Egyptian government wants to turn into a farming region.

The government announced in September 2014 a mega project where it will involve private sector companies to build solar plants in Aswan under the name of ‘feed-in-tariff’ (FiT) scheme.

The plan, put forward by Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, eyes generating 20 percent of Egypt’s energy supply from renewable energy resources by 2022.
