MOSCOW- 4 October 2017: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Wealth Tarek El-Molla pointed out Wednesday that Egypt seeks to achieve self-sufficiency of natural gas and stop importing it as of next year.

These remarks made during Molla's participation at the 19th ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow, as he headed Egypt's delegation.

Addressing the meeting, Molla said that Egypt worked through its membership on supporting the forum's objectives including the first place the expansion in the use of natural gas as a clean resource for energy for implementation of sustainable development.

He stressed the importance of enhancing investments in the field of the gas, saying "that is what Egypt applied whether on the level of the increase of production or establishing large projects to develop the Egyptian gas discoveries in the Mediterranean sea which support Egypt to be a hub of natural gas trading."

The ministerial meeting of the GECF chaired by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak with the participation of petroleum ministers, who are members in the forum, of the major producers and exporters of gas worldwide, in addition to the ministers of seven countries as observers and the Secretary General of the forum.
