Building materials exports up to $3.4B in 8 months

CAIRO – 16 September 2017: The Export Council for Building Materials said that its exports increased by about eight percent in the period between January and August 2017 to reach dollars 3.4 billion, compared to dollars 3.1 billion during the same period of 2016.

The total exports of the metal industries sector hit 2.6 billion dollars, against 2.5 billion dollars in the same period, making an increase of five percent, the monthly report of the council said.

The iron and steel industry has achieved a growth of 192 percent to reach 619 million dollars, in comparison with 212 million dollars during the same period.

With a 14 percent increase, the exports of aluminum reached 296 million dollars.

The exports of copper upped by 22 percent to reach 141 million dollars, compared to 116 million during the same period in 2016.

A notable increase of 61 percent in the zinc exports has been reported to stand at 1.1 million, against 744,000 dollars in 2106.
