Egypt reduces value of import bill in 2023: CAPMAS

CAIRO - 14 March 2024: The Egyptian state has succeeded in reducing the value of the import bill and increasing reliance on the local product during the last year. 
 
The value of Egyptian imports from various countries of the world recorded $83.2 billion in 2023 compared to $96.2 billion in 2022, a decrease of $13 billion, with a decrease rate of 13.5 percent, according to the CAPMAS's latest reports.

1. China, worth $12.9 billion.
2. The United States of America, worth $5.4 billion.

6. Italy, worth $3.2 billion.
7. India, worth $3.2 billion.
8. Brazil, worth $3 billion.
9. Türkiye, worth $2.8 billion.
10. Kuwait, worth $2.7 billion.
 
The top ten commodities imported by Egypt during 2023:
 
1. Petroleum products worth $7.4 billion.
2. Iron or steel raw materials worth $4.2 billion.
3. Wheat worth $3.8 billion.
4. Medicines and pharmaceutical preparations, $3.6 billion.
5. Plastics in their primary forms: $3.3 billion.
6. Organic and inorganic chemicals worth $3 billion.
7. Corn worth $2.5 billion.
8. Natural gas worth $2.3 billion.
9. Passenger cars worth $2.1 billion.
10. Crude oil worth $1.9 billion.
