CAIRO – 4 February 2024: Egypt and Switzerland are preparing for a cooperation program within the period of 2025-2028, according to an official statement by the Ministry of International Cooperation (MoIC).

MoIC minister Rania Al-Mashat met with Patricia Danzi, the Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation on Sunday to discuss the program which aims to advance various important areas such as governance, human rights, green growth, youth skills development, protection issues, and migration.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the new program will build upon the existing Egypt-Swiss cooperation program that has been in effect from 2021 to 2024.

Al-Mashat presented the goals of Egypt's Country Platform for the Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) Program. These goals include promoting comprehensive development in Egypt, addressing the impacts of climate change through mitigation and adaptation projects, and implementing water desalination initiatives.

Furthermore, the program aims to support small farmers in adapting to climate change, improve agricultural productivity and incomes through modern technology and clean energy, and attract investments worth $14.7 billion by utilizing innovative financing tools.

The meeting also discussed mobilizing efforts to assist displaced individuals affected by the regional situation. The Swiss side expressed its support for the Egyptian Red Crescent with a contribution of 4 million Swiss francs.

In addition, Danzi commended Egypt's effective role in providing humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza. Switzerland has responded to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip by disbursing an additional amount of $102 million.
