CAIRO – 5 July 2023: The New and Renewable Energy Authority will secure a land plot for Norway's Scatec ASA to build a wind farm western Sohag as per an agreement they signed Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.

The $5-billion farm is set to produce five gigawatts of electricity per annum. During its construction, the project will create 8,000 jobs. However, when it enters service, it will provide 300 permanent jobs.

Scatec ASA had built six stations at Benban Solar Park located in Aswan within Egypt's plan to make the share of renewables in the energy mix 42 percent by 2030. In that context, Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker noted that Egypt's renewable energy sector was able to attract FDIs.

That is because of the vast swathes of lands where renewable energy projects can be established, Egypt's geographical location that is ideal to exporting energy to Europe, and recently-upgraded national grid.
