The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) fined mobile service providers LE 32 million for violating the standards and determinants of the quality of mobile phone services during the first quarter of 2023.

This came in a NTRA’s annual report it published on the results of mobile network service quality measurements for Q1 of the current year from January to March 2023.

The report is issued in line with NTRA’s framework to improve telecommunication services’ quality provided to users. The report uses data and figures carried out by NTRA to monitor the quality and keep it consistent.

The authority also approved 823 new stations since the beginning of 2023, with an increase of 5 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

The methodology is based on testing samples of voice calls and data transmission services to determine the quality of communication services provided by operators in Egypt, using measurement equipment and vehicles, reaching 116,000 km on the main and secondary roads of cities and villages during the first quarter of 2023.

The NTRA also implemented small coverage stations on top of lighting poles in Greater Cairo to overcome coverage obstacles in places where it is not possible to establish stations.
