CAIRO - 12 June 2019: A member of the Industry Committee at the Parliament Tareq Metwally denounced the campaign of defamation against Syrians residing in Egypt.

"Syrians are not treated as refugees in Egypt, but as residents in their second country.
Egyptians also wish that Syrians return home safely after the nightmare of war ends and the Syrian wounds are healed," said Metwally in a statement on Wednesday.

Metwally also added that this systematic campaign aims to create tension between the two sides, praising the Hashtag #السوريين_منورين_مصر that expresses the love of the Egyptians to the Syrian people.

He pointed out that the presence of the Syrians in Egypt has revived investments in various fields as the number of Syrian investors is estimated at 30,000, which contributed to the revitalization of the economy and to creating a state of competitiveness among the products.

He also said that the perpetrators of the campaign of distortion may be traders who failed to keep up with the Syrian success on the land of Egypt.

In 2018, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stated that Egypt was hosting 5 million refugees and immigrants, adding that Egypt is the only country that does not have refugee camps.

"We host citizens from African and Arab countries; they do not live in camps or shelters but live with us," Sisi said during the main session of the Munich Conference in February 2019.
