CAIRO - 11 May 2019: Member of Egypt’s supreme council for combating terrorism Khaled Okasha said on Saturday that Egypt exerts strenuous efforts to maintain Libya's stability.

Speaking to MENA, Okasha, who is also director of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies, stressed that Egypt foiled a plot to form an alliance aimed to undermine Libya's stability, pointing out to a visit recently paid by Commander of Libya's National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to Egypt and his meeting with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

He further warned that some Libyan militias seek help from foreign allies and urge them to cut off any military support for Haftar's troops.

On Thursday, President Sisi conferred with Haftar at al Ittihadiya Palace, where they discussed Egypt’s support for Libyan efforts to fight terrorism and extremist militias.

Haftar hailed Egypt's role in support of the Libyan state and people at all levels, praising the deeply-rooted ties between the two countries.
