Law to reduce retirement age of judges to 64 years rejected

CAIRO – 31 May 2017: A draft law to reduce the retirement age of judges from 70 to 64 years gradually over three years has been unanimously rejected by the Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, a statement issued on Tuesday announced.

The proposed amendments also included the prevention of graduates from police academies and military colleges to appointment in any of the national judicial bodies.

“Judges are senior and valuable and experienced people, and thus accelerating the amendment to the working age of judges through the draft law is not required,” parliamentarian Abdel Moneam Alimi said during a meeting.
