CAIRO – 3 September 2018: A number of 30,200 unmarried Egyptians lost their lives in 2017, according to CAPMAS, 45 percent of them aged between 16 and 29 years, representing exactly 13,590 people.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) is the Egyptian official statistical agency.

According to official statistics, the 30,200 unmarried Egyptians who died along 2017 represent more than 6 percent of the total number of deaths among Egyptians starting from age 16.

It has been recognized that the number of Egyptian men dying from the age 65 to 69 is larger than the number of women dying at the same age range. However, the number of women dying from the age 70 to 85 is larger than the number of men dying at the same age range.

According to CAPMAS, 2,274 single women in such age range died in 2017, while the number of deaths among men in the same age range stopped at 1,576 people.

Concerning single people who died in 2017, it has been found that deaths among unmarried people whose ages range from 80 to 84 are the least in terms of number. The number of deaths in this age range recorded 812 people only in 2017.

Since CAPMAS calculated single people who lost their lives in 2017 in general, Egypt Today would also mention divorce rates versus marriage rates published by CAPMAS in February.

Divorce rates in Egypt

Divorce rates in Egypt are witnessing a noticeable increase compared to marriage rates, according to CAPMAS report.

It was stated that divorce rates increased by 6.5 percent from December 2016 to December 2017. The number of divorce forms issued in December 2017 was 14,000, compared to 13,000 during the same month of 2016.

Marriage rates witnessed a relative increase as well, but the rate of separations was much more than any other measured by CAPMAS. Marriage rates increased by 4.3 percent in December 2017, compared to the rate measured in December 2016.

The report concluded its statistics by mentioning the exact numbers of divorce and marriage papers issued during 2016 (from January to December). The marriage papers amounted to 983,000 forms, while the divorce forms reached 192,000.
