CAIRO – 17 December 2017: A three-story building collapsed in Qena governorate Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuring another, in addition to causing damages to neighboring buildings which were evacuated. The Civil Protection Authority have already started removing rubble.

Residents will be given temporary accommodation, and financial grants. The injured woman was hospitalized and released.

Three residential buildings collapsed on Tuesday in Rawd El-Farag neighborhood in Cairo, resulting in two deaths and injuring four others. A five story building collapsed, leading to the total collapse of a neighboring three-story building and the partial collapse of another neighboring three-story building.

The two deaths from Tuesday’s building collapse were a 45-year-old woman and a five-year-old child. Residents of surrounding buildings were evacuated and granted make-shift housing.

Old and illegally constructed buildings are common in Egypt, yet residents often refuse to leave.
