World leaders unite in condemnation of Arish attack

CAIRO – 24 November 2017: Several countries and entities have condemned the attack that targeted Al Rawdah mosque in the city of Arish, North Sinai, on Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi over the terrorist attack which targeted Muslims during their performance of the Friday prayers, leaving more than 235 dead and 109 wounded according to latest casualty count.





The United States, French President Emmanuel Macron and the French Ambassador to Egypt Stéphane Romatet, condemned Arish mosque terrorist attack in North Sinai.





EU Ambassador in Cairo, Ivan Surkoš, also denounced such terror attack , “I condemn this barbaric terrorist act against innocent civilians. EU stands side by side with Egypt in the fight against terrorism,” Surkoš tweeted on Friday.





Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, strongly condemned the terrorist attack in the Sinai region of Egypt that took the lives of many innocent civilians, and left 125 injured.





American president Donald Trump has condemned the terrorist attack hit a mosque in Arish, North Sinai, on Friday, which left 235 people dead and 125 injured. Trump described the attack as a, “horrible and cowardly terrorist attack on innocent and defenseless worshipers,” adding that the world cannot tolerate terrorism; “we must defeat them militarily and discredit the extremist ideology that forms the basis of their existence!” he stated.



The British ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, condemned the attack saying, “I am disgusted by the evil attack that killed & injured so many Egyptians in Sinai today. On behalf of the UK my deep condolences to all involved”




The British Prime Minister Theresa May and Edwin Samuel, Britain’s spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA),denounced the attack saying that targeting innocent prayers is horrific and coward. “We are all against violence and terror anywhere”.

Sheikh Sabah IV Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, emir of Kuwait, has sent condolences to Egyptian president Abdel Fatah al-Sisi over the victims of the bomb attack. Condemning these "criminal heinous acts", the emir voiced his "solidarity and sympathy" with Egypt.
Bahrain's Foreign Ministry slammed the terrorist attack, and stressed Bahrain's solidarity with Egypt in the fight against terrorism.

In a statement, the ministry offered condolences to the Egyptian leadership and people over the victims of the attack and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab Al Loh has strongly condemned the Arish mosque terrorist attack.

Al-Loh announced downing the embassy’s flags and cancellation of anniversary of late President Yasser Arafat scheduled to take place on Friday in Cairo.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah Movement and Interior Ministry Spokesperson Eyad al-Buzem announced their support to the Egyptian government and people against terrorism. They condemned Arish terror act and sent their condolences to the victims’ families.

Hamas released a statement condemning the terrorist attack at the Rawdah mosque, stating that “this attack violates all sacred and humanitarian principles.
The Arab League also stressed its support to the Egyptian administration in its campaign against terrorism and sent its sincere condolences to the victims’ families and the Egyptian people.

The Sweden embassy in Cairo, and the Arab Parliament also condemned the terrorist attack and announced its support to the Egyptian leadership in all procedures taken to deter extremists and terrorist groups.





Oman, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanese politician Samir Geagea also condemned the Arish terror attack which targeted a mosque during the Friday prayers.
Informed sources told Egypt Today that 235 were killed and dozens were injured in a terrorist attack at a mosque in Arish City, North Sinai on Friday.

A number of terrorists stormed Al Rawdah mosque in west Arish City during Friday prayers and detonated an explosive device, according to circulated media reports.

The Ministry of Health earlier confirmed that 109 were injured in the attack, adding that the injured were transported to Bir al-Abed hospital in North Sinai. The mosque was damaged as a result of the bomb.

Eyewitnesses said that the terroristsset fire to ambulance vehicles cars that belonged to residents and blocked the road in Al Rawdah Village.

Security and medical sources in the attacked area reported that forces halted traffic on Arish-Qantara Road, and deployed ambulance vehicles to transport the injured to the hospital.
