In case you didn’t get enough of Cairo’s most famous square on Al Jazeera and CNN, filmmakers from all generations have already started plotting for January 25 Revolution-inspired scripts.
In case you didn’t get enough of Cairo’s most famous square on Al Jazeera and CNN, filmmakers from all generations have already started plotting for January 25 Revolution-inspired scripts.Award-winning director Magdy Ahmed Aly (Asafeer Al-Nil [Nile Birds], 2009, and Khaltet Fawzeya [Fawzeya’s Secret Recipe], 2008) is already planning to incorporate riot footage he took with his digital camera into in a project he is calling Al Midan featuring his own son Ahmed Magdy who made his acting debut in Microphone. Director Sameh Abdel-Aziz, known for the ensemble dramas Cabaret (2008) and Al Farah (The Wedding, 2009) is working on a new film called Hazr Tagawol (Curfew), focusing on the neighborhood patrols formed by civilians to protect their homes after the police withdrew from the streets. Actor Khaled Abol Naga, who spent time among the protesters, also intends to produce several documentaries with footage he shot with his own camera. Khaled Al-Haggar, Khaled Youssef and Hesham Issawi are also among the filmmakers who announced upcoming revolutionary celluloid projects.
