Sisi, Ukrainian counterpart discuss bilateral relations in phone call

CAIRO – 24 July 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed, Friday during a phone call the bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, trade and tourism.

According to spokesperson Bassam Radi, Sisi hailed the recent development in the two countries relations.

Zelenskiy also lauded relations between the two countries and asserted his country’s keenness on fostering the ties especially that Egypt plays a pivotal role in the stability and security of the Middle East and the African continent.

The call also tackled exchanging visions concerning some regional files including the Libyan crisis and the peace process.

The Ukrainian president hailed Egypt’s efforts to reach a political solution to these crises rocking the region.

Egypt’s officials have been discussing the latest Libyan updates with several officials and leaders around the world. On Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry conducted evening a series of telephone calls with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EU Commission Josep Borrell, as well as Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Dendias, and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta Hon. Evarist Bartolo to discuss the latest development regarding the Libyan crisis.

Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s vision regarding the situation in Libya, especially in light of the irresponsible escalation involving transfers of fighters and terrorists into Libya by Turkey with the aim of destabilizing the region, targeting Arab states’ national security and undermining the fortunes of their peoples, said the Egyptian foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement.
