CAIRO – 20 June 2017: Three people affiliated with the so-called armed Islamist group “Hasam Movement” were killed in fire exchange with the police in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, announced the Ministry of Interior.

The ministry said in a statement that it launched a raid on the militant group’s hotbeds. The statement referred to the movement as the armed wing of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

The statement added that the dead among the militants are of the movement’s main leaders; they have provided the movement with logistic support, including weapons and explosive devices to carry out several terrorist attacks.

The militant group claimed responsibility for a Sunday attack in the southern outskirts of Cairo, leaving one police officer dead and another four wounded.

A roadside bomb, which was buried by the side of the highway of the Maadi Autostrad Rd., went off as the vehicle carrying the police personnel passed by.

“We struck once again deep into Cairo, after having warned earlier,” the terrorist group announced on its official Facebook page.

It also claimed responsibility for an assassination attempt of the former Grand Mufti of Egypt Ali Gomaa last year.

Jihadists and terrorist organizations have been carrying out attacks on police and army forces since the ousting of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
