CAIRO - 14 June 2017: Egyptian Minister of Solidarity, Ghada Wali, affirmed that Egyptians living in Qatar, numbering between 250 to 300 thousand Egyptians, are “all stable in their jobs,” during a meeting held in Qatar on Tuesday.

Wali stressed that the committee responsible for the Egyptian Community in Qatar is closely following the situation of Egyptians in Qatar and is ready to resolve any problem that may arise.

The committee meeting was headed by Wali, in the presence of Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior, General Intelligence and EgyptAir airlines.

Makram, Immigration Minister noted that the complaints received by the Ministry of Immigration revolved around demanding facilitating flights to the nearest point to Doha, on the occasion of the holiday season.

On his part, Pilot Sherif Ezzat, Chairman of EgyptAir airlines, pointed that the airline company is still coordinating with Arab airlines, including Kuwaiti, Omani and Jordanian companies, to increase flights to the nearest point to Doha.

Ihab Abdel Hamid, Minister Plenipotentiary confirmed that the Egyptian Embassy in Qatar continues to provide “all consular services, including the issuance and renewal of work permits in Qatar.”

A number of Arab countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen, accused Qatar of supporting and financing terrorist groups, therefore, cutting all ties with Qatar and banning Qatari airlines and aircrafts from crossing its airspace or landing in its airports, which affected Egyptians living in Qatar, making transportation to and from Egypt for Egyptians living in Qatar a rather complicated process.
