Sisi, Irish PM discuss cooperation in fighting terrorism, organized crime

CAIRO - 25 September 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi discussed Tuesday with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar means of boosting defense and security cooperation to combat terrorism and organized crime.

This came during their meeting on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 74).

Regarding the historical ties between both countries, Sisi asserted Egypt's commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation at various levels, especially in the economic and tourismfields, according to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson BassamRady.

On his part, Varadkaralso stressed his country's keenness to push forward bilateral ties and maintain close mutual coordination on various issues to serve the mutual interests of both countries.

The two sides discussed means of fostering economic cooperation, especially in light of Egypt's recent endeavors to create a business-friendly environment andattract foreign direct investment (FDI).

The statement reported that the two sides also exchanged views on the regional issues and the efforts afoot to combat illegal migration.

President Sisi will deliver a speech before the UNGA on Wednesday that will touch on Egypt’s vision, achievements and stances towards regional and international events.
