CAIRO – 25 April 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will honor ten skilled and influential laborers at the Labor Day ceremony organized by the Egypt Trade Union Federation (ETUF) late April, said the Ministry of Manpower in a statement on Wednesday.

President Sisi will award the ten workers along with two retired laborers the First-Class Medal of Labor for their hardworking duties, the statement added.

Last year, President Sisi honored 10 influential workers in a ceremony held the ETUF to celebrate International Workers' Day.

On March 30, 2019, President Sisi declared raising the minimum wage for public servants, whose number is 5.2 million, to LE2,000 from LE1,200. The remaining decisions are pertinent to women precisely as indicated below.

An exceptional raise worth LE150 will be granted to public employees to face inflation. Meanwhile, Pensions will increase by 15 percent with a minimum of LE150, said Sisi during the Egyptian Women Day ceremony. The minimum pension to be LE900.

The announced increase comes four months before a scheduled austerity measure of removing oil subsidies completely will be taken by the government in light of its economic reform to meet the conditions of a $12 billion IMF loan.
